Monterey College of Law Case Study

When an organization is growing at an exponential pace, they need a team that can keep up and deliver results.

T he Monterey Colleges of Law had an existing website presence built by a hobbyist developer. Their website solutions were alright, given their small budget, but the school's expansions required a much more professional and polished experience for their existing students, faculty, and prospective students. Being that the first impression is key and that students applying to law schools often apply to multiple, their website needed to make the process straightforward. Their old websites were cluttered, confusing, out of date, improperly built (and impossible to manage), and going down almost daily.

Here are our top five features your homepage needs in order to be successful.

Our team spent months curating content, learning the staff preferences, exploring the brand, and learning the ideal demographic to best position the new websites for success. We spent weeks learning and brainstorming, before even touching a single line of code. We immediately realized their brands were growing without a clear direction. Austin, our Creative Director, developed a brand book to serve as a guide, a road map so to speak, that would allow us to progress with ease throughout these massive website undertakings.

Deciding to grow as a family of law schools, Monterey Law decided to keep all designs similar, with only subtle differences and brand identity throughout. The websites for MCL and SLOCL are very similar but required many small tweaks to position each for success within their target demographic and locations. While these law schools are very similar, they each attract a specific type of student and require proper market positioning. The main functionality issue on the MCL websites were the lack of true responsive design. Many students opt for smaller display laptops to allow easier transport, meaning many students were applying on screens less than 15" (tablets, smartphones, etc.) the inability to use all functions on the website in mobile viewing were putting them at a high risk of losing applicants.

Upon launching their website, we then transitioned into management of the websites, the graphic design, and branding, as well as the social media and digital marketing channels.

We developed four websites, over 350 pages combined (and counting) for Monterey College of Law, packed with custom design work, an aggressive SEO campaign, and timeless yet innovative features.

After just three months of Social Media, Search Engine Optimization, and Website Management, we were able to position the MCL websites as relevant, and high ranking by Google's standards. This positioned them aggressively and allowed them to nearly double their enrollment goal. The Monterey Colleges of Law remain on our cloud host, to ensure the highest level of speed and security is extended to these websites.

We also monitor their ongoing technology requirements, ensuring they are updated with the newest iterations of all software, to ensure there is virtually no downtime and the websites can be easily managed by our team or a member of the MCL staff. Working with larger organizations such as MCL is something our team is extremely fond of. Getting to know the staff and the USP of these businesses allows us to aid in the positioning of their image online, resulting in a better bottom line overall.
